We arrived in Guilin from our long journey to a wet, overcast city. However once we arrived at the hostel we were warmly welcomed, and the children given lots of attention, especially helping to make dumplings at the Monday evening hostel dumpling party!
We had a quiet Tuesday avoiding the rain and doing some school work, then later caught the bus into the city to see the city at night. Guilin is on the Li River with many lakes and Karst mountains surrounding it. In one of the lakes are two copper pagodas, at night these and the surrounding pavilions, pretty humpbacked bridges and pontoons are all lit up. It looked beautiful. We wandered around in the rain taking in these sights and all the buildings and neon lights lit up making the city a colourful and vibrant place. As we explored the lakes and river we came across a dragon boat with pretty lanterns all lit up with lovely reflections on the lake.
It is still raining, and unfortunately the forecast is similar for the next few days, so we are going to kit up in wet weather gear and explore some of the parks today. Tomorrow we are off to the Dragon Backed Rice Terraces, so walking boots and waterproofs are all ready! The rain makes are feel a little more at home! 🙂
