Poetry is the record of the best and happiest moments of the happiest and best minds. – Percy Bysshe Shelley
For Dad school I have been reading some poetry and having a go at writing some poems of my own. Here they are:
The Clatter of the Hooves
On top of a hill,
you can hear him riding, riding,
The clatter of hooves,
as he is riding, riding,
The horse snorts,
as he is riding, riding,
The clink of the saddle,
as he is riding, riding,
The goodbyes of the lonely traveller,
before he is gone, riding, riding away………
The ones who Heeded
Quietly we listen to him cry,
making the silence die,
We have no hands, we have no feet,
we have no voices for us to meet,
This house is old with no one in,
and creepers climbing up the bin,
“Tell them I came” the traveler pleaded,
“Tell them I came but nobody heeded”,
Soon his voice is tore,
and the silence is once more.
( this poem is inspired by Walter de la Mare’s ‘The listeners’, it is a great poem and I enjoyed reading it very much.)
Bouncy Beaumonts
Driving past a petrol queue,
you can hear them laughing, laughing,
Stuck inside a petrol queue,
you can hear them groaning, groaning,
Singing themselves along the road,
you can hear them out of tune,
Driving along a bumpy road,
you can hear them clunking, clunking,
Grinning at the scenery,
you can see them driving, driving away……..
