Belize and the chocolate factory

So one destination that has unanimous agreement amongst the family is Ambergis Caye in San Pedro, the home of Uncle Chris, Auntie Jo and cousin Noah. Chris and Jo moved out to Belize to set up a windsurfing and sailing company. Jo and I spent 6 months out there, me helping to teach and Jo learning to sail. We shared our little yellow beach house with a friendly gecko and many of our friends who came out to visit. We dived the reef, fished for supper with broom handles and celebrated the new year on the beach in the rain.

Home in Belize

It was a fantastic experience but its now been 10 years. A lot has changed, the windsurfing business has been sold and a new venture, chocolate making, started (www.belizechocolatecompany.com) and more importantly (yes more important than chocolate and windsurfing even) both families now have kids. Ellie is really excited that Noah will be over here for her birthday this year but we’ve never managed to get back over there (money and hurricanes). Despite (or perhaps because of this) Ellie and Will constantly talk about going over to see Noah. I guess they’ve seen all our photos and quite possibly Belize is the one destination that we’ve talked about that is concrete and real to them.  The only reason Will is learning to swim is so he can go snorkelling!

At the moment, we think Belize will be a great stop at the end of our trip. The timings should be right (Feb-Mar). We’ll have to chat with Auntie Jo and Noah when they’re here to see what they say.
