Today we went to see dinosaurs in this really cool place. It was called ‘Centro Paleontologico logo barreales’. We drove into the middle of a desert along a gravel road that was really bumpy in Dotty. There were oil wells all around that Daddy thought looked like dinosaurs with long necks.
We parked and stepped in through a wooden gate. We had to wait until a lady came. She took us to a tour that was in English. We saw cow bones and the lady told us how they needed water to become fossils. Then we saw real dinosaur bones. There was a leg bone (femur) that was about the size of two of me, and it wasn’t all of the leg!!!!!!! Next we saw the excavation pit. It was full of water because they had had a storm and there were lots of tiny weeny frogs hoping around. The lady explained that this area was once a loop of a river and that they had found leaves to show that it was like a forest and not a desert as it is now. She showed us some petrified trees (not scared but hard like fossils and rock).
In the pit, I think it is amazing because they have found lots and lots of fossils including crocodiles , and a HUGE herbivore called Futalognkosaurus that weighed 70 tons!!!!!!!!! We then saw footprints of a herbivore and a carnivore they were huge. The carnivores have pointier claws than the herbivores. We saw a pterosaurs footprint, it has 4 toes.
We went into the lab where they clean the bones. We then went to the museum, there were lots of dinosaur bones, there was a herbivore with a swishy tail that it used as a whip to defend its self. Ellie and I got to hold a real dinosaur egg. It was very heavy but the lady said it had been scanned and there was no baby inside it. There was a skull of a meat eater called Gigantosaurus. The skull was over 2 metres long and had sharp teeth. At the end of the tour I bought a resin tooth that had been moulded from the gigantosaurus.
